Surprised red fox
A lovely April day with a gentle breeze, patchy fluffy white clouds, good spells of blue sky and sunshine drew me to my favourite woodland in search of a Great spotted woodpecker which I had seen and roughly captured with a smaller camera the week before, there were fresh wood chips at the old tree it had been at so in my full camouflage suit and tripod cover I sat by the base of a nearby tree and waited, within an hour and a half I saw a gingery blob moving at the bottom of the plantation, it was a red fox and it was moving towards me, heading for its den in a well used badger sett just off to my left, it stopped about half way to smell the air, it knew something (me) was there and it stopped to check out its surroundings. it crept slowly to its right, still moving towards me and its burrow but enough to keep its distance from some strange presence it could sense, it then looked straight at me, I was looking at it through the eye piece of the camera and trying not to make any sudden movements, as it got closer.
It was sniffing the air and moving forward like a big cat would do, carefully lifting its paws and placing them gently as it moves, i’m under a 3D camouflage blanket wearing a full 3D camouflage suit, and this normally skittish animal couldn’t make heads or tails what it was looking at, perhaps worrying for it but I could hardly contain my excitement, if this camo gear can outsmart a fox, its going to allow me to get really close to other wildlife and enable me to get some great captured moments.
As it got closer it stopped for a minute, just staring right at me then turned and made its way back the way it had came, following its footsteps back towards the bottom of the woods, and on occasion looking back at that strange clump of greenery with a round circle near the top, I think it might have sen its or a reflection in the lens as its priority seemed to be getting to safety, ive seen this fox on different occasions on my walks around the land here and its living well with a glossy healthy coat, hoping to get a pic of it with cubs next time though, that would make my year.
