Osprey hide

Just outside the village of Callendar in the Loch Lomond and trossachs national park there is a real treat for the wildlife photographer, the chance to get up close and nearly personal with one of the worlds most expert fish catchers, The Osprey.

Watching these majestic and impressive birds go about there lives is a rare privilege, and they command presence when they arrive, they soar in large circles above the hide and will often perch on a tree to get a good look at there target which lucky for them and us is a trout farm with a good supply of takeaway fish for them and there chicks, which grow rapidly towards the end of there season judging by the amount of fish that the one osprey will take in a three hour session, when circling above they go out of site and then everyone in the hide is on tenterhooks, cameras poised and pointed at the water, then it flys in at a great rate of knots hits the water with a good splash and depending on the size of fish its just latched onto can be there for just near seconds or a couple of minutes, if you get the chance to visit the osprey hide please do as you won’t be disappointed, there are also otters, beavers, kingfishers, woodpeckers visiting the hide and deer wandering the surrounding area, its a brilliant day out.
